Soda Stereo is a Mexican musical group that has been producing music since the late 1990s. Soda Stereo's style of rock melds traditional Latin American sounds with electronic beats and danceable grooves. The band's songs are often about topics related to Mexico, Latin America, love, life in general, and transcendentalism. Soda Stereo is one of the best-known musical groups to emerge from Mexico in recent decades, having sold over ten million albums worldwide. Soda was formed in 1985 in Mexico City with a line-up of Charly Alberti on drums and percussion, Gustavo Cerati on lead vocals and guitars and Zeta Bosio on bass. Their first performance was at the Colegio Alemán when they were known as "Oye". Soda's name came from the owners of a bar that they used to frequent when they were in high school. Their music began to take shape when the band members began to experiment with electronic sounds, although they did not actually begin to make electronic music until much later. The band's biggest hits are "La Rompe Corazones", which means "Break up hearts" in Spanish, "Sarabande de Amor" (Sarabanda de Amor) and "Y no me vuelvas a ver". They also released two albums: El Origen del Amor (1989), which is considered their debut record under the name of Soda, and Que Se Perla el Alma (1993), which is regarded as the first album by the more classic and indie-like Soda Stereo. They have since gone through several line-up changes. Former members include: Christian Meier (bass), Jesusa Onetto (guitar and vocals), and Eva "Ébola" González (bass).
